American 47th New York White Summer Sun Helmet. Cork based helmet, which these are typically very delicate. Model 1880 sun helmet. Front helmet plate has 47th in shield with motto of Excelsior. Most likely late 1800s era. Very worn and used condition with stains and section of pith helmet with damage to the cork underneath.
