The Harper’s Ferry Musket from 1828 is a fascinating piece of history. It was part of the Model 1816 series, which underwent improvements in 1822 and 1828, leading to the Model 1822/28. These muskets were originally flintlock firearms but were later converted to percussion ignition between 1849 and 1854. The conversion process involved replacing the flintlock mechanism with a percussion system, making them more reliable. The musket was a .69 caliber smoothbore weapon with a 42-inch barrel and was manufactured at the Harper’s Ferry Armory in Virginia (now West Virginia). It played a role in the Civil War, used by both Union and Confederate forces. The design was influenced by the French Charleville Model 1777 Musket, showcasing the international exchange of military technology.   See below in the Description area for a short video.   See Additional Information for shipping dimensions.
