Gerber Mak II Knife “Cat’s Tongue” Handle 1968 . DWU1123

$23.33 $32.43
United States Gerber Mark II knife with sheath. Cat’s Tongue handle. I believe this one is a Cat’s Tongue Type 2 (CT2) knife. Combat knife with L6 Steel and Slant 1 logo. Narrow wasp blade with no teeth serrations. Serial number on blade is 006967 which would date this one to 1968. This one also has a blued blade (bluing can be found on some early production Mark IIs. Gerber offered a small plastic bottle of Bluing Solution that allowed a knife owner “to field blue your combat knife for camouflage purposes”. This one appears to have been ordered with the bluing solution and the owner blued the blade). Combat sheath has some wear and has the round end with right-strap, rivets at throat and hanger, and two-line sheath stamp. Worn condition.   Additional Notes: The Gerber Mark II gray handles are found on the late 1968 through late 1977 knives. There is a great deal of variation found in the gray handle knives, including blade profiles (narrow wasp and wide wasp), manufacturing process (forged and hand ground) and non-serrated blades as well as 3 serration patterns (two fine and one coarse). There are at least two shades of gray used on the gray armorhide handles, possibly more, the lighter gray seemed to appear on the earlier knives. Handle finishes: Cat’s Tongue was used on 1967-1968 knives. Gold was an option on even 100 serial numbered knife handles on early 1967-1968 knives. The Gray was used on 1968-1977 knives. Yellow was used on 1971-1974 dive knives. Orange was used on some of the 1971-1974 knives. Black was used on 1977-1998 knives. The CT2 knives are found on 1967-1968 knives in the approximate serial range of 003541 – 008584.   See below in the Description area for a short video.   See Additional Information for shipping dimensions.
