United States Model 1918 Mark I Trench Knife. Darkened brass handle US Model 1918 (Mark I) Trench knife by LF&C (Landers, Frary & Clark) with scabbard, however, both the hooks are gone on scabbard (quite common for these to break). The handle also has numbers on the other side that I believe was to attribute to soldier (first letter of last name and 4 numbers of the service id (military type laundry numbers, that is nice and not something you see very often on these). Blade is heavily worn, however, decent overall condition for age. Additional Notes: The possession of knuckle type knives in some states and/or countries is prohibited. The US Model 1918 Mark I Trench Knife is a WW1 era combat knife with a double-edged blade, cast-bronze knuckle guard, and distinctive “U.S. 1918” markings, designed for close-quarters trench warfare. The 1918 Mark I knife was produced before the Armistice in November of 1918, though many never reached the front lines and were stored in U.S. depots. Surplus knives were later used by U.S. Rangers and paratroopers in WW2.
