United States Army Airborne Grouping. Has jump oval, name strip, and good luck token named to: Private Charles M Funk. This came in as part of a larger group from Private Funk that I will be listing over the next several days to include some of his 101st Airborne shirts, Camouflaged paratrooper helmet, and other miscellaneous items. Most likely 1950s-1960s era. Worn condition. Additional Notes: The 101st Airborne Division, known as the “Screaming Eagles,” has a storied history and continues to play a role in U.S. military operations in Korea today. The 101st Airborne Division was established in 1918 and gained fame during WW2 for its airborne operations, including the D-Day landings and the Battle of the Bulge. While the division did not directly participate in the Korean War (1950-1953), it has been involved in various operations and deployments in Korea since then, particularly during the Cold War and in response to North Korean aggression. During the Vietnam War, the 101st Airborne Division fought in several major campaigns and battles, including the Battle of Hamburger Hill in 1969 and the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord in 1970. In mid-1968, the division was reorganized and redesignated as an airmobile division and in 1974, the division was again redesigned as an air assault division.
